Does Melissa McCarthy have something between her teeth at the ‘Identity Thief’ premiere?

Last night was the Los Angeles premiere of ‘Identity Thief’, and as I was looking at these pictures, I thought – is there really something between Melissa McCarthy’s teeth? Maybe – maybe not. Maybe it’s just a space…. but it definitely looks like something’s in there. Why wouldn’t someone tell her?

RELATED: Melissa McCarthy on the set of ‘The Heat’ at Boston’s old Roxbury police station in Boston

Anyhoo, here are new pictures from the red carpet. Melissa walked the red carpet with her husband Ben Falcone. Also on hand were Jason Bateman, Amanda Peet, and Jenna Elfman.

I am BEYOND excited about this movie. I LOVE a good laugh, and this trailer KILLS me.

Jason Bateman was on Howard Stern last week, and it was such an interesting interview. He is the best, isn’t he? Anyway, he talked about how ‘Identity Thief’ came to be. He said he went and saw Melissa McCarthy in ‘Bridesmaids’, and when he walked out of the theater, he knew she had to star in ‘Identity Thief’. He said the script was originally written so that he would be the identity thief, and she would be the victim….but they switched it around and made her the criminal. I think it’s genius, and I can’t wait to see the movie!

Melissa McCarthy, star of “Identity Thief,” makes an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday, February 6th.  Melissa talks with Ellen about family outings with her 2 year-old daughter….

I loooooooooooooooooove Melissa McCarthy. If you were to ask me who was my favorite female comedian – it would be a coin toss between her and Kristen Wiig. I cannot WAIT for ‘Identity Thief’ to come out!!

Melissa McCarthy’s attacked in ‘Identity Thief’ review, as critic calls her a “female hippo”

Melissa McCarthy and Jason Bateman star in the new film ‘Identity Thief’, due out this Friday. From the looks of the trailers, I’d rate this movie #1 on my must-see list. I think the trailer is absolutely hilarious, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t watch it nearly every day. And then today….. reviews started rolling out about the movie, and the one title that stands out the most in my mind calls ‘Identity Thief’ the “Worst movie of 2013 so far.” I am CRUSHED. The worst movie? Really? It’s that bad??? I’m so sad!! I don’t know if I’ll see it now, I generally tend to agree with the critics. I’m just so upset, I was really looking forward to this one.

Anyway, in one particular review, New York Observer reviewer named Rex Reed attacked Melissa McCarthy in an absolutely horrific way.

After calling the film “trashy” and a “chunk of junk,” Reed notes that McCarthy’s thief character is “tractor-sized” and “humongous.”

But that’s not all.

He also refers to the popular comedic star as a “female hippo.”

And if you didn’t think it was personal, Reed adds that McCarthy is “a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success.”

What a pig. Seriously. I hate men like this. FYI: Here’s what Don Juan looks like himself. Send your hate mail here: editorial@observer.com

Jenny McCarthy goes off on Rex Reed for calling her cousin, Melissa McCarthy, fat

Last week we ALL went nuts over film critic Rex Reed’s horrific comments about Melissa McCarthy. Not only did he go off on her new movie, “Identity Thief,” but he also attacked Melissa personally. Among some of the horrible things he said, he called her a “cacophonus, tractor-sized female hippo.” He also dismissed her completely, saying she’s “a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success.”

Apparently Rex tried to defend himself after the wave of backlash he received, saying his comments “are what sold tickets.” Does that make what he said better? He added he objects “to using health issues like obesity as comedy talking points. That’s what this girl does, this Melissa Manchester.” What? He doesn’t even get her name right? He says “I have too many friends that have died of obesity-related illnesses, heart problems and diabetes… I have helped people try to lose weight, and I don’t find this to be the subject of a lot of humor.”

I think he made it worse. He needs to keep his mouth SHUT. One person who agrees with me is Melissa’s cousin, Jenny McCarthy.

Don’t mess with Jenny McCarthy’s family. One week after veteran film critic Rex Reed attacked the actress’ cousin Melissa McCarthy in a scathing write-up of the movie Identity Thief, the 40-year-old former Playboy model is speaking out. And she’s not mincing any words.

“[Melissa is] very talented and people know that,” McCarthy told E! News of the Bridesmaids star. As for Rex Reed? “He can go to hell.”

Reed, a critic for the New York Observer, has been under fire from many corners since Feb. 5, when he called Melissa McCarthy “tractor-sized” and a “female hippo” in his review of her latest hit comedy, co-starring Jason Bateman. He also accused the Oscar-nominated actress of being “a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success.”

“That’s obnoxious in itself,” Jenny McCarthy told E! of Reed’s insults. “For anyone to attack like that, it’s just wrong and hurtful, and it doesn’t do anyone any good.”

Go Jenny!

I will say this. I saw ‘Identity Thief’ this week – and it is AWFUL. Like BEYOND bad. Probably one of the worst movies I’ve seen in a while, and that’s saying something. I’ve seen a lot of bad movies. I was super disappointed, because the trailer was hilarious. One of my favorite trailers of the year! The movie was mind-numbingly stupid. The funny parts in the trailer were the ONLY funny parts in the movie. There was nothing more to it.

I would highly recommend you SKIP the movie, it’s NOT funny. At all….

2013 MTV Movie Awards Red Carpet Pics!

Last night was the 2013 MTV Movie Awards. They were on so much earlier this year, I wonder why? Every year they fall on or around my birthday, which is the first  week of June. What’s with doing them in April, MTV?

Anyway, what did you think of the show? I’ll get to more of that later, but first and foremost, I have to say Rebel Wilson was a TERRIBLE host. She was completely UN-FUNNY the whole time, and I kept thinking to myself, WHY didn’t she hire herself a writer? Those jokes COULD have been funny, but they came out terribly. She was trying too hard, if you ask me. I felt uncomfortable FOR HER most of the time.

Anyway – we’ll talk more about the awards (and last night’s stage crasher) later. Now we’re all about FASHION! What was everyone wearing? Who was your favorite? Let’s begin!!

Selena Gomez wore a gold dress by Julian McDonald. I think she looks beautiful. The dress is gorg!

Kerry Washington wore Michael Kors.

Zoe Saldana wore Givenchy.

Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy made an appearance last night at CinemaCon, where they are promoting their new movie, ‘The Heat.’

I have mixed feelings about this movie. It could be really funny, and it could certainly be really un-funny. I hope it’s good! I love Sandra Bullock, and I think she does really well in these types of comedies (ala ‘Miss Congeniality’).

Also at CinemaCon were Kristen Wiig (wth is she wearing?) and Ben Stiller.

Melissa McCarthy says she gets letters “from young actresses who were worried they had to fit a certain look”

Melissa McCarthy sat down with More Magazine and opened up about her weight, and what people think about her. She’s just so great, isn’t she? She comes across as such a great person – even when people (REX REED) are attacking her.

On actresses thanking her

“The letters I really love are from young actresses who were worried they had to fit a certain look. They say I’ve opened it up. And I don’t just mean plus-size girls. You can push things now. With all the great performances in ‘Bridesmaids,’ it changed how people see funny women.”

On her weight

“I’ve been every size in the world. Parts of my 20s, I was in great shape, but I didn’t appreciate it. If I was a 6 or an 8, I thought, ‘Why aren’t I a 2 or a 4?’ Now I feel like I have two great kids and the dreamiest husband on the planet, and everything else is just a work in progress.”

On being 40

She doesn’t focus on “the stupid stuff I worried about at 20, because at 20 you don’t have any responsibilities, so of course you’re a shallow narcissist. You can’t appreciate anything, you’re so self-absorbed. I bought into it — I should be taller, thinner, have better hair. But I think that’s part of being young. Now, especially with kids, you lose any sense of time or energy to worry about all the little stuff. It’s like the chip was taken out.”

On her husband

“I got hit with the lucky stick with Ben”

Melissa’s husband, Ben Falcone, gushes about her

“We got hit with the same lucky stick. From the very first time we spoke, we were on the same page. We love each other, respect each other and try not to sweat the small stuff. And we really make each other laugh.”

Don’t you love her even more now! She really seems to have her head on straight – even though she’s gotten much more popular over the last couple years. I love how she talks about her husband, she’s just the best!

Here are pictures of Melissa, her husband Ben, and Sandra Bullock (who looks INSANE!).

Sandra Bullock on doing a sequel to ‘The Heat’: “If you look back on my illustrious sequel work nothing has proven successful”

$

Seems like a sequel to ‘The Heat’ is obvious. The movie was so great, and was left pretty open to a sequel. Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy had incredible chemistry. They played so well opposite each other, they fit very naturally, like all the good cop movies from the 80′s and 90′s. I thought it was very much like the female version of the Lethal Weapon movies. Remember how good those were?

Even though the movie has already grossed $130 million, Sandra is hesitant to star in a part 2.

“I know they say never say never, but right now, I can’t imagine it,” Bullock tells EW. “I don’t want to ruin what Melissa and I had. If a miracle happens where [a script] shows up that really and truly outdid the first and provided an experience that was better than the first one, then I would look at it. But I’m not there.”

The Heat screenwriter Katie Dippold is reportedly already at work on a second chapter of the cop comedy, according to director Paul Feig — but Bullock says she learned a lesson about follow-ups after 2005’s Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous and 1997’s Speed 2: Cruise Control, which both disappointed at the box office. “If you look back on my illustrious sequel work [laughs] nothing has proven successful,” says the Oscar winner, who who will be back in theaters Oct. 4 as an astronaut in the Alfonso Cuarón-directed space thriller Gravity. “A sequel is such a daunting thing, because you don’t want to lose the magic and the charm of the first one.”

I see what she means! Both of the sequels she did were HORRID! I think most sequels are….it’s very rare to find a sequel that’s as good as the first!

Either way – the original was hilarious. Did you see it?

Reese Witherspoon covers Elle Magazine, opens up about how her children changed her life.

Reese Witherspoon, 37, covers the November issue of Elle Magazine, dubbed the “Women in Hollywood” issue. Penelope Cruz, Melissa McCarthy and Shailene Woodley also have covers (I’ll post those below). Witherspoon looks amazing on the cover, doesn’t she?

In the interview, she talked about her children, and how they made her a better woman. “Somebody was saying to me the other day, ‘Oh, people get less interesting when they have kids.’ I just don’t think that’s true,” the Oscar winner says. “I feel like I was so confused before I had kids, I almost got in my own way.”

Witherspoon has two children with her ex-husband, Ryan Phillippe. 14-year-old Ava, and 9-year-old Deacon. She also has a 12-month old son, Tennessee with her second husband Jim Toth. “Having kids made me clearer about who I was as a woman. I just wanted to exhibit good qualities for my daughter. I was a little competitive before I had kids — probably really competitive, to be honest,” she said. “It really made me let go of that.”

Reese is not only in front of the camera, but she’s also behind it. In 2000 she founded Type A Films, which merged with Pacific Standard in 2012. “I started noticing a couple years ago that I wasn’t seeing women as the stars of movies,” she recalls. “I’m seeing them as the guys’ girlfriends, or so-and-so’s wife. I just thought: God, if I don’t start buckling down and start producing some movies, what’s my daughter going to see in the movies?”

Did Elle Magazine try to keep Melissa McCarthy hidden on their November cover?

Last week I showed you Elle Magazine’s “Women in Hollywood” issues. Celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Penelope Cruz and Melissa McCarthy were just a few of the celebrities to be honored. Every woman got a sexy cover – except Melissa McCarthy. Instead, Melissa wore a huge, baggy coat that covered her body. So what gives? Why did they cover her up?

The heat is on! Not everyone loves Melissa McCarthy’s Elle cover for its November Women in Hollywood issue. In fact, a significant number of fans are irate over the fashion glossy’s decision to photograph her swathed in an overcoat, her face partially concealed by her hair — especially in comparison to the magazine’s other cover girls that month, all of whom are much more exposed in their photos.

In an essay for Slate about McCarthy’s cover-up, culture editor June Thomas wrote of the full-figured actress’ Elle shoot, “[She] was photographed in a Marina Rinaldi coat so huge that she could hide her Mike and Molly co-star Billy Gardel underneath. McCarthy’s hair covers a quarter of her gorgeous face, and with her hands stuffed deep into her coat pockets, the only visible flesh is a tiny triangle between the coat’s lapels and the briefest glimpse of calf.”

Elle has since released a statement defending their styling of McCarthy. “On all of our shoots, our stylists work with the stars to choose pieces they feel good in, and this is no different: Melissa loved this look, and is gorgeous on our cover,” the magazine said. “We are thrilled to honor her as one of our Women in Hollywood this year.”

While the Heat star certainly looks glamorous and stylish in the cashmere outerwear, she is definitely and suspiciously far more concealed than her fellow honorees are on their covers. Reese Witherspoon wears a sexy cutout Versace dress on hers; Shailene Woodley is clad in a black one-piece swimsuit; and while Penelope Cruz, who was pregnant at the time of the shoot, doesn’t show her body at all on her cover, her face is left relatively bare and natural-looking.

Do you think it’s an issue that Elle covered Melissa for the cover? Maybe Melissa had control over the cover….? Eh? When I saw her cover, I honestly didn’t think a thing about it. I thought she looked great. She looks really beautiful…. I love her. She had a great movie this year, ‘The Heat’ and things are looking great for her.

Melissaa McCarthy says – PIPE DOWN – I picked the coat on the Elle cover!

elle-07-nov-melissa-mccarthy-cover-xln

Last week there was all kinds of controversy surrounding Melissa McCarthy’s Elle cover. Why? Because while stars like Reese Witherspoon got a sexy cover, wearing tight clothing, Melissa was covered up in a big, bulky coat.

Melissa doesn’t understand all the drama, because she claims she picked the coat out herself! “What I found so bizarre is I picked the coat. I grabbed the coat. I covered up. I had a great black dress on but I thought, it comes out in November. I was so sick of summer. I live in Southern California. I was like, ‘Give me a big coat to wear. Give the girl some cashmere!’ I picked the coat. They were like, ‘The dress is really great,’ but I was like, ‘Yeah, but look at this.’ I was just shocked I didn’t steal it. Now I think I really should have the coat. I’m petitioning for that coat. Give me that coat. I earned it, d— it!”

Melissa doesn’t have an issue with it, then neither should anyone else!

Sandra Bullock & Louis Out Trick-Or-Treating

Sandra Bullock
went trick or treating with her friend and ‘The Heat’ costar Melissa McCarthy yesterday afternoon. The two wore matching “bearded fishermen” costumes, hoping to go un-noticed.

The friends were joined by Sandra’s 3-year-old son Louis, and Melissa’s family, husband Ben Falcone and two daughters Vivian, 5, and Georgette, 3.

The 43-year-old Bridesmaids actress and the 49-year-old Gravity star first bonded while filming the buddy cop comedy The Heat last year. Speaking about their relationship with Us Weekly this past summer, McCarthy said she had a blast with Bullock.

“I thoroughly enjoyed saying awful things to Sandy,” she quipped. “We get along so well, it felt okay!”

Don’t expect a repeat performance, though. Bullock pretty much squashed any hopes of a sequel to the hit comedy in an interview with Entertainment Weekly.

“I know they say never say never, but right now, I can’t imagine it,” she said. “I don’t want to ruin what Melissa and I had. If a miracle happens where [a script] shows up that really and truly outdid the first and provided an experience that was better than the first one, then I would look at it. But I’m not there.”

They’re so cute! I want to watch ‘The Heat’ again. I thought it was hilarious!

Apparently Melissa McCarthy and Rebel Wilson have made a “fat pack”

The 2013 MTV Movie Awards in LA

If Radar is to be believed (which is hit or miss these days) actresses Melissa McCarthy and Rebel Wilson are BBW BFF’s.

“Rebel and Melissa have known each other for five years and there’s a lot of love there,” the source said.

“Neither one of them is trying to lose weight and they’ve formed this little support group to keep each other from falling into the skinny Hollywood trap.”

The Super Fun Night and Mike And Molly TV stars, who also act in movies, refuse to succumb to the pressure of the media which is “desperate to see what these hilarious and successful women would look like when they’re thin.

“Obviously, they could both snap their fingers and lose the weight because of the resources they have available to them — which could include everything from personal trainers to Lap Band surgery — but right now they’re agreeing with each other that they have to hold the line and provide a positive image for overweight girls everywhere.”

I’ve seen pictures of both of these ladies working out – and trying to lose weight. So I’m not sure if I believe they’re both happy as clams to be large ladies, or if this is just another BS story.

I’m ready for a new Melissa movie…. Rebel I can do without. I just don’t find her funny. Okay, she’s been funny in a couple movies, but her job as host of the MTV Movie Awards last year killed it for me.

TRAILER TIME: Check out Melissa McCarthy’s hilarious new movie “Tammy”

tammy-trailer

I seriously just watched this trailer back-to-back 4 times. Why does Melissa McCarthy crack me up so much? I think if she was standing still – talking serious about the weather – I would die laughing. Anyhoo – my favorite comedian has a new movie coming out!

Melissa McCarthy is in a “Gangsta’s Paradise” in the new trailer to the upcoming movie “Tammy.” The funny woman is shown in the clip dancing to the Coolio song in Crocs and a t-shirt that reads “Mahalo,” with a paper bag on her head and one on her hand. She amateurishly robs a fast food joint of its cash and pies by disguising her finger gun as a real gun in the paper bag.

Directed by McCarthy’s husband, Ben Falcone (“Bridesmaids”), “Tammy” stars McCarthy as a woman who has recently learned that her husband is a cheater, and turns to her alcohol-loving grandmother, played by Susan Sarandon, for support and adventures. Hitting theaters on July 2, “Tammy” also stars Dan Aykroyd, Allison Janney and Kathy Bates.

They failed to mention that Toni ColleTte is also in the movie…. and I LOVE HER!

Melissa McCarthy is Starting Her Own Clothing Line

CinemaCon - Warner Bros. Special Presentation Event

I find Melissa McCarthy delightful.  She is an incredibly talented actress and so funny in everything she is in.  She steals the show.  Anyway- she has recently announced that she will be launching her own plus-size clothing line.  In an interview with Redbook she explains what inspired her to do so.

“When I go shopping, most of the time I’m disappointed. Two Oscars ago, I couldn’t find anybody to do a dress for me. I asked five or six designers—very high-level ones who make lots of dresses for people—and they all said no.”

Some people are real jack-wads aren’t they?  I think Melissa usually dresses very well.  And I also happen to love the shoes that she chose to match the dress in this picture- I love that she didn’t go basic black.

Her daughter recently asked her if she was ‘famous.’

And I said to her, ‘Famous doesn’t mean anything. Just because people know my face doesn’t mean they know us or that it makes us any more interesting or better.’”

You can say that sister.

We’ll next see McCarthy in ‘Tammy’ which she co-wrote with her husband, Ben Falcone, due out in July.  The description on imdb.com is:

After losing her job and learning that her husband has been unfaithful, a woman hits the road with her profane, hard-drinking grandmother.

I’d see it?

Melissa McCarthy Was a Teenage Goth

The fabulous and kicky Melissa McCarthy is featured on the cover of Rolling Stone’s Summer issue.  In her interview, she talks about how she got started in the business, her rebellious goth phase as a teenager, and her tendency to black out.

How she got her start in comedy:

“I really dressed to rival a drag queen, for sure,” she recalls. (“It was the time of Lady Miss Kier, RuPaul and Lady Bunny,” says Atwood.) “I had a gold lamé swing coat on, a huge wig, big eyelashes,” McCarthy recalls. “I talked about being incredibly wealthy and beautiful and living extravagantly.”

How she was cast in Bridesmaids:

Improving with Kristen Wiig in front of Judd Apatow and Paul Feig, McCarthy blacked out and began rambling about inter-species dolphin sex. “There’s not one thing you could have done to seem any stranger,” she said to herself in the car home. “Sex with a dolphin? Handplay with a dolphin! You just could not have been any weirder.” A year or so later, she was nominated for an Oscar for her role in the film.

Her goth phase:

Early in high school, McCarthy was a preppy jock: a cheerleader and a student-council member. But when puberty hit, she dyed her hair blue-black, wore weirdo fishnets on her arms and snuck out to Chicago, where she’d frequent a club called Medusa’s and dance on scaffolding.

You can read the full interview here.

I just love love love love her.  Please make Heat 2!  McCarthy’s new film Tammy will be out in theaters on July 2nd.

Melissa McCarthy covers 'People'; talks journey to success

Comedic actress Melissa McCarthy talks about her journey from crying all of the time as a new actress to being successful in Hollywood in the new issue of “People” magazine.

“In my 20s I used to cry about why I wasn’t thinner or prettier, but I want to add that I also used to cry about things like: ‘I wish my hair would grow faster. I wish I had different shoes …,’ ” she recalls in PEOPLE’s new cover story. “I was an idiot … It’s a decade of tears.”

In a candid interview, the actress, 43, opens up about how her supportive family, the true love of her husband Ben Falcone and her hard-won Hollywood successes gave her the self-confidence to become a superstar. Falcone directs her for the first time in the new comedy Tammy (in theaters July 2), which the couple co-wrote.

“I’ll do almost anything for a laugh,” McCarthy says of her bold characters. “I’m completely delighted by people who think, ‘I don’t care what anybody else thinks, I look great in this, and I rock it and I love it.’ It’s such a delightful sort of confidence.”

But she’s not impervious to the nasty comments – about everything from her acting abilities to her size – that have come with her increasing fame.

“I’ve never felt like I needed to change,” she says. “I’ve always thought, ‘If you want somebody different, pick somebody else.’ But sure, criticism can sometimes still get to me. Some things are so malicious, they knock the wind out of you.”

A recent reference to her as “America’s plus-size sweetheart” in an article did not go unnoticed. “It’s like I’m managing to achieve all this success in spite of my affliction … Would you ever put that in the headline for a male star?”

Don’t you just love her? We wish people wouldn’t put so much of an emphasis on how she looks…she’s a funny lady!

PICS: 'Tammy' premieres in Los Angeles

Melissa McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone walked the red carpet for the premiere of their new comedy “Tammy”. The movie stars McCarthy as the titular character, along with a star-studded cast.

New reviews have been flowing in about the comedy, suggesting that the movie wasn’t all that it was cracked up to be. Also starring in the movie is Susan Sarandon, Toni Collette, Allison Janney, Kathy Bates and Sandra Oh.

And yes, that is a leather dress that McCarthy wore to the premiere in L.A. What do you think of her ensemble?
